The Weekly Observer: September 6-10

Note from the compiler:

Greetings to anyone who reads this weekly newsletter!! I hope this is a helpful resource to stay abreast of the latest developments in Japan and an entertaining list of news that interests a wide range of readers. My aim has been to be both informative and professional in the way I compile the news every week.

As usual, the document has bookmarks so you can skip over sections that are not of interest.

This week, there will be two documents: one is the general document with the usual material covering COVID-19, foreign/defense policy, domestic policy and elections. The second document covers the LDP presidential election which will be held on September 29. There was a lot going on this week and I expect much more to happen in the coming weeks.

As a result, I’ve decided it’d be better to have a separate document summarizing the week’s developments and hopefully a table with each candidate’s policies. The second document will be up sometime before Monday morning Eastern time (Monday night Japan time).
